Flagstone patios and walkways are a timeless and popular choice for outdoor living spaces, known for their natural beauty and heroic durability. These one of a kind walkways are constructed using flat, irregularly shaped pieces of stone, often sourced from quarries or natural deposits. The irregularity of the stones allows for a unique and rustic appearance, as no two flagstone patios are exactly alike. This diversity in shape, size, and color gives homeowners the creative freedom to design a patio that perfectly complements their outdoor environment.
For this brand new, sunken firepit and patio walkway installation, we used hand-picked, cut and flamed Pennsylvania Bluestone which is flagstone that has been modified with a cool surface colouring process. Flamed bluestone is created by firing a flame at the natural stone causing the surface to burst and dimple. This procedure produces a rough texture and increasing the surfaces grip. Due to its texture, flamed bluestone is highly slip-resistant, making it ideal for our “wet coast” climate!
For some finishing touches, we added Elfin thyme, Corsican mint, and brass buttons on the cracks to give it some character and a feeling of time.
